The 442nd Regimental Combat Team of the United States Army was a unit composed of mostly Japanese Americans who fought in Europe during the Second World War. The families of many of its soldiers were subject to internment. The 442nd was a self-sufficient fighting force, and fought with distinction in North Africa, Italy, southern France, and Germany, becoming the most highly decorated unit of its size and length of service in the history of the U.S. Army, including 21 Medal of Honor recipients.

The purpose of this Fund is to provide scholarships to Hawai'i high school graduates who are majoring in any area of study at any campus within the University of Hawai'i System.

Criteria

1. Recipients must be full-time or part-time 
2. Undergraduate or graduate students majoring in any area of study at any campus in the University of Hawai'i System
3. Recipients shall demonstrate satisfactory academic achievement as determined by the selection committee. 
4. Recipients must have been born in Hawai'i and be graduates of a Hawai'i high school
5. Recipients shall submit an essay not more than two pages describing the role of the 442nd in WWII and their legacy
6. Financial need shall be a criterion in making this award although not necessarily as determined by federal guidelines

Criteria

1. Must have completed a full academic year at the UH Maui College
2. Have a GPA of 2.5 or better
3. Preference shall be given to students in the following order:
   1. Single parent
   2. Demonstrating academic potential
4. Major in any area of study
5. Must be a U.S. citizen and Maui County Resident
6. Must have some degree of financial need, not necessarily determined by federal guidelines

3. Major is in any area of study

The scholarship is offered in memory of Dorothy Shimer who helped found the Maui Branch in 1962.

The scholarship is given to assist deserving Maui county students in their pursuit of higher education.

Criteria

1. Must be full-time or part-time (at least 6 credits)
2. Major in any area of study
3. Must be a resident of Maui County and a US citizen
4. Some degree of financial need, not necessarily by federal guidelines

It is the intention of Del Adlawan and Sharon Heritage to establish an endowed fund to provide scholarships to assist students at UH Maui College.

Criteria

1. Must be full-time or part-time
2. Have some financial need
3. Have a GPA of 3.0 or better
4. Major in any area of study
5. Must express intention to continue education to a bachelor's degree program
6. Show evidence of school or community service
7. Must be a Hawaii resident and U.S. citizen
8. Preference shall be given to students who are enrolled full-time and are single parents

The University of Hawaii Community College (UHCC) is proud to offer students a unique opportunity to study Japanese language and culture at Aichi University. Located in the beautiful city of Nagoya in Aichi Prefecture, Aichi University is a private liberal arts university consisting of a junior college, seven undergraduate programs, and eight postgraduate departments. With approximately 7,600 students, the institution is the center of a rich range of international exchange and was founded on the ideals of contributing to world culture and peace, training students with an international outlook, and contributing to its local community.

Under our student exchange agreement, UHCC students pay their UHCC home campus full-time (12 credit) tuition and attend Aichi University tuition-free.  Students may be eligible for a stipend of $3,000 for one semester or $6,000 for one year.

Criteria

1. Must be a University of Hawaii Community College student (based on home campus)
2. Attended and completed at least two (2) semesters at a UHCC campus
3. Minimum cumulative 2.8 GPA
4. Completed Japanese 201 with a "C" or higher, or equivalent
5. Students of proven academic excellence and character as evidenced by grades, personal-statement, and recommendations
6. Must be at least 18 years of age

1. Undergraduate students enrolled or intending to enroll at the College of Engineering with preference to full-time students.
2. Students transferring from Kaua‘i Community College.
3. Demonstrates satisfactory academic merit with a minimum GPA of 2.75.

5. Preference: Students who intend to return to Kaua‘i to work in an engineering-related field.

Funds shall be used for costs associated with attendance (e.g. tuition, books, fees, etc.).

The purpose of this fund shall be to provide scholarships for University of Hawaii at Hilo students who are graduates of Hawaii high schools and residents of the State of Hawaii "with preference given to Big Island high schools" and scholarships for students who are citizens of the US-affiliated states, namely American Samoa, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, the Federated States of Micronesia, Guam, the Republic of the Marshall Islands, and Palau.

Criteria

1. Recipients must be enrolled full time at UHH and must be graduates of Hawaii high schools, with preference to the Big Island high schools, and residents of the State of Hawaii or citizens of the US affiliated Pacific Islands states, namely American Samoa, The Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, the Federated States of Micronesia, Guam, the Republic of the Marshall Islands, and Palau.
2. Minimum GPA of 2.7.
3. Preference will be given to applicants who demonstrate some degree of financial need, not necessarily as defined by federal guidelines.
4. Recipients are eligible for scholarship renewal as long as all criteria are met, however, renewal is not guaranteed.

This fund was established by Alexander & Baldwin, Inc. and its subsidiaries to provide scholarships for tuition, books, fees, and personal culinary equipment to second-year students enrolled in the Maui Culinary Academy at UH Maui College.

Criteria

1. Must have completed a minimum of 25 food service credits or equivalent
2. Must be full-time
3. Have a GPA of 2.75 or above
4. Graduated form a Maui County public, private, charter high school, earned a GED or homeschool diploma
5. Major in Culinary Arts
6. Must be a Maui resident
7. Must be a second year Culinary Arts student

By establishing this endowment, Byron and Lois Bender are providing perpetual funding for the annual Alfred Capelle and Byron Bender Scholarship established at the University of Hawai'i Foundation in September 2002 by Robert Barclay, author of the book Melal which translates to "Playground of Demons".  His book is about people in the Marshall Island and how they survived the horror of nuclear testing, western arrogance, and domination.

Alice Fujie Oda Tamura was born in Kealia, Kaua'i in 1927. She was a graduate of Kapa'a High School and Honolulu Business School. She completed her secretarial training program in 1948 and started her career at Fort Shafter. In November 1951, she moved back to Kaua'i and began her 30+ year career working in hospital settings by accepting a position in the administrative offices at Wilcox Memorial Hospital. For three years Alice became almost totally immersed in hospital life while living with the nurses in their quarters on the hospital grounds. For Alice, living and working at Wilcox Hospital resulted in friendships with nurses that endured over the years and a growing identification with the medical professions.

Marriage to Bunki Tamura took Alice back to Honolulu where she took a position as secretary in the Queen's Hospital School of Nursing, until after its closure, then she was transferred to the hospital's administrative offices and worked as a secretary until she retired in 1982.

Alice admired, respected and trusted nurses. She had intimate knowledge of the work that they did and especially was respectful of the rigorous education and training that they received in the School of Nursing. Alice regarded the years that she worked as the secretary of the School of Nursing as the golden years of her career.

Alice passed away March 9, 1998. The donor of this fund would like to pay tribute to her sister by establishing this scholarship for students who aspire to become nurses.

The purpose of this fund is to provide scholarships to students who are enrolled in the Associate in Science degree in Nursing program at Kapiolani Community College. Preference given to single parents or heads of household.

Criteria

1. Must be full-time students

3. Have a GPA of 2.0 or better
4. Major is the Nursing Program
5. Preference given to single parents or heads of household

Alice Akiko Sakata was born August 17, 1932 in Spreckelsville, Maui. She graduated from Maui High School and married her high school sweetheart Willard Nagata and began a family with three children. For 40+ years she was a cannery worker for the Maui Land and Pineapple Company.

Alice was a sweet, gentle, generous and loving person who, in her quiet way, lived life fully. She worked very hard at the pineapple cannery, raised her three children and enjoyed her hobby of raising plants and Japanese flower arranging "ikebana". After retiring in 1995, she was very active in many senior activities and learned to dance the hula, play the ukulele, learned oil painting and sang in the Kahului Union Church Chancellor Choir. She especially enjoyed being a grandma to her two grandchildren. Alice also enjoyed traveling to the mainland, especially California to see her sisters and brothers.

In 2001, Alice suffered from an episode of severe depression and fully recovered. She resumed her usual hobbies and traveled to the mainland and abroad to Europe to visit her grandson. Then, in 2008, she had a second episode of depression which resulted in multi-organ failure due to dehydration and her passing on July 23, 2008.

With Alice's situation on Maui in 2001 and 2008 there were very limited qualified geriatric resources for her and her family. The contribution of the Alice Sakata Nagata Scholarship is to support Maui students who are very motivated for a career in aging, to work with the elderly and their families on Maui.

The purpose of this fund is to assist Maui College students in need of financial assistance who are pursuing studies in long term care and/or have an interest in working with the elderly or aging community on the island of Maui.

Criteria

1. Must be studying in long-term care and/or have an interest in working with the elderly or aging community on Maui
2. Must be full-time
3. Have financial need as determined by federal guidelines
4. Have a GPA of 3.0 or better

The purpose of this Fund is to provide scholarship support to students enrolled in any area of study at Kapi‘olani Community College (“Kapi‘olani CC”), Leeward Community College (“Leeward CC”), or the Molokai Education Center at University of Hawai‘i Maui College (“UH Maui College”). Funds shall be used for costs associated with attendance (e.g. tuition, books, fees, etc.).

Criteria

1. Enrolled in any area of study at Kapi‘olani CC, Leeward CC, or the Molokai Education Center at
   UH Maui College.

Preference

1. Students enrolled at Leeward CC with priority to students at the Wai‘anae campus.
2. Involved in community services such as sustainability, environmental stewardship, and/or civic
   responsibility.

The purpose of this Fund is to provide scholarship support to students pursuing a degree or certificate in any area at any University of Hawai‘i campus. Preference shall be given to students with genealogical ties to the area of Makena, Maui, and Makena Golf & Beach Club employees and/or their immediate family members. Funds shall be used for costs associated with attendance (e.g. tuition, books, fees, etc.).

Criteria

1. Students pursuing an undergraduate degree or certificate in any field at any University of Hawai‘i campus.
2. Cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or above.
3. Financial need shall be a criterion in making this award although not necessarily as defined by federal guidelines.
4. Students with genealogical ties to the area of Makena, Maui, as self-identified through the application process; OR Students that are Makena Golf & Beach Club employees and/or their immediate family members, as self-identified through the application process. The University and/or the Foundation may contact Makena Golf & Beach Club to verify applicant’s relationship to the employee.

The purpose of this fund is to provide scholarship assistance for students enrolled in the University of Hawaii at Hilo College of Pharmacy.

Criteria

1. Recipients must be enrolled full-time in the University of Hawaii at Hilo College of Pharmacy in any year of professional study.
2. Academic merit as demonstrated by a minimum GPA of 3.0.
3. Recipients must show some degree of financial need, not necessarily as determined by federal guidelines.
4. Recipients must be graduates of a high school in the state of Hawaii.

The purpose of this Fund is to provide scholarship support to single parents pursuing a degree or certificate in any area of study at the University of Hawai'i Maui College (UHMC). Funds shall be used for costs associated with attendance (e.g. tuition, books, fees, etc.).

Criteria

1. Full-time or part-time, undergraduate student pursuing a degree or certificate in any area of study at UHMC.
2. Cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or above.
3. Financial need shall be a criterion in making this award although not necessarily as defined by federal guidelines.
4. Student that is a single parent, as self-identified on the application.
5. Graduate of a public high school in Maui Nui (including public charter schools).

1. Recipients must be full-time or part-time graduate students accepted for enrollment in any area of study at the University of Hawaii at Hilo;
2. Recipients must be citizens of Papua New Guinea;

American Savings Bank (ASB) is committed to supporting education in Hawai'i. It is ASB's intent to link this scholarship endowment to the bank's strategic initiatives which includes supporting K-12 students in Hawai'i and encouraging their matriculation into higher education.

American Savings Bank established this scholarship program at the University of Hawai'i in 1978.

Criteria

1. Must be full-time undergraduate students.
2. Enrolled at any campus in the University of Hawai`i System.
3. Have a minimum GPA of 3.0.
4. Applicant shall be a graduate of a qualifying high school.  ASB to provide the University of Hawai'i Foundation with a list of qualifying high schools annually by March 1.

The purpose of this scholarship is to assist students pursuing a course of study in Humanities at Kaua'i Community College.  Funds shall be used for costs associated with attendance (e.g. tuition, books, fees, etc.).


Criteria

1. Full-time or part-time, undergraduate students studying one or more of the following Humanities disciplines at Kaua'i Community College:
   1. History, literature, philosophy, religion, art or music history, drama, and theatre.
2. Second-year student and/or student who has completed a minimum of 24 credits.
3. Minimum GPA of 2.75.
4. Financial need shall be a criterion in making this award, although not necessarily as defined by federal guidelines.
5. Applicants must reference their interest in Humanities in their personal statement essay.

The endowment will honor, in perpetuity, Anna S. Sloggett, who taught elementary school children for 35 years on Kaua'i. She inspired her students with creative and innovative teaching methods which many of her students to this day still remember; out-of-the-ordinary field trips; exposing students to culture and fostering imagination were key. Anna celebrated her 100th birthday on September 17, 2006. Her hope was that the endowment would help would-be teachers foster creative ways to benefit the children of the future. She said, "I'd hope that girls and boys that are going to be teachers would be fond of children and want to give them an opportunity to have something to look forward to in life."

The purpose of this fund is to provide scholarships to assist full-time undergraduate students enrolled at Kaua'i Community College, who are transferring to any four-year campus in the University of Hawai'i System, to pursue a degree in Elementary Education.

Criteria

1. Recipient must be transferring from Kauai CC to any four-year campus in the UH System
2. Must be a full-time student
3. Have some degree of financial need, not necessarily as defined by federal guidelines
4. Have a cumulative GPA of 2.8 or above
5. Major is in Elementary Education
6. Must be a Kaua'i born resident

Anthony Bongo was born on February 25, 1947 to Gregorio and Leonora Bongo.  He was the second of four children and was a respectful and loving son and brother.  He attended Waianae High School and served as class president during his sophomore and junior years.  After graduating from high school in 1965, he attended Honolulu Community College and studied drafting.  In 1967 he earned his Associate Degree in Science in Drafting.
 
During this time, the Vietnam conflict was on, so he decided to protect the home front and joined the U.S. Army Reserve Unit of the Hawai'i National Guard.  He went to Fort Ord, California for basic training and was singled out for officer training school.  However, since he had no intention of making the military his life's career, he declined the offer.  Upon his return from basic training, he was employed by Hawaiian Telephone Co., and life was going according to plan.
 
Then suddenly in 1969, the Hawai'i National Guard and the Arkansas National Guard were activated.  He quickly married his sweetheart, and ten days later he was deployed to Vietnam.  Shortly upon his arrival, he was made a platoon leader and on May 20, 1969 he was killed in a combat operation protecting his men on Hamburger Hill near Thua Thien.  He was laid to rest with military honors at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific at Punchbowl, Hawai'i.  His name is etched on the Vietnam Wall in Washington, D.C. as well as on a pedestal at the Vietnam War Memorial on the grounds of the State Capitol in Honolulu.  For his valor, he was awarded the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star, and the Silver Star, and an education building was dedicated and named after him at the U.S. Army Reserve Center at Fort Shafter Flats in Honolulu.

The purpose of this Fund is to provide scholarships to students pursuing certificates or degrees in a Career and Technical Education Program at Honolulu Community College.  Funds shall be used for costs associated with attendance (e.g. tuition, books, fees, tools, etc.).

Criteria

1. Full-time or part-time, undergraduate students pursuing certificates or degrees in Career and Technical Education Program at Honolulu Community College.
2. Cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or above.
3. Financial need shall be a criterion in making this award although not necessarily as defined by federal guidelines.
4. Preference given to:
   i.  Graduates of Waianae and Nanakuli High Schools.
   ii.  Students pursuing certificates or degrees in Architectural, Engineering, and CAD technologies.

The purpose of this fund is to assist students with financial need who are residents of Kaua'i and enrolled in any area of study at any campus within the University of Hawai'i System. Funds may be used for tuition, books, fees, etc.

Criteria

1. Student must complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and receive a correctly processed Student Aid Report
2. Some degree of financial need, not necessarily determined by federal guidelines
3. Preference is given to those with roots on Kaua'i (those born and/or with ancestors from this area).
4. Students are to be at least a 12-month resident of Kaua'i Island
5. Must be an undergraduate or graduate in any area of study at any campus within the University of Hawai'i System enrolled at least part-time
6. Academic merit as demonstrated by a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0

Seisaku Aoyagi immigrated to Hawaii from Yokosuka, Kanagawa-ken, Japan in 1907, initially working as a plantation contract laborer. In 1921, he married Kin Aoki, and in 1930 the couple founded Hawaii Junk, selling military surplus from World War I and buying scrap metal.

The purpose of this Fund is to provide scholarship support to Hawaii Island students attending the University of Hawaii at Hilo majoring in Business or Economics.

Criteria

1. Recipients must be full- time undergraduate students attending UH Hilo majoring in business or economics.
2. Recipients must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above
3. Recipients must be graduates of a Hawaii Island high school.
4. Have some degree of financial need, although not necessarily as determined by federal guidelines

The purpose of this fund is to provide scholarship support to students pursuing a degree in business administration with a concentration in accounting at the University of Hawai'i West O'ahu . Funds shall be used for costs associated with attendance (e.g. tuition, books, fees, etc.).

Criteria

1. Full-time or part-time undergraduate students pursuing a degree in business administration with a concentration in accounting at the University of Hawai'i West O'ahu.
2. Cumulative grade point average of 2.8 or above.
3. Financial need shall be a criterion in making this award although not necessarily as defined by federal guidelines.
4. Preference to students who have worked or are committed to work for a federal, state, or local government agency as an accounting or auditing intern, or are interested in pursuing a career in government accounting as self-identifed.
5. Preference to past or present active members of an accounting club at the University of Hawai'i West O'ahu as self-identlfied.
6. Preference to current members of the Association of Government Accountants Hawai'i Chapter as self-identified.

The purpose of this fund is to provide scholarships for students attending the University of Hawaii at Hilo to study abroad. UH Hilo's Center for Global Education and Exchange provides opportunities for student and faculty exchange, and study abroad programs for UH Hilo students. The center also develops international agreements with other institutions of higher education and promotes internationalization and global awareness on the UH Hilo campus.

Criteria

1. Recipients must be full-time undergraduate students and have completed a minimum of 24 credits with a declared major at the University of Hawai`i at Hilo
2. Academic merit as demonstrated by a minimum GPA of 3.2
3. Some degree of financial need, not necessarily as determined by federal guidelines
4. Student must submit proposal for study abroad outlining the institution and/or country they will be going to and document how the funding will assist them
5. The study abroad period must be at least one semester
6. Recipients will be expected to use the scholarship funding to support them in a pre-approved program of courses, relating to their degree at a reputable institution
7. Must not have traveled abroad for more than a 1-month period
8. Preference given to graduates of a high school in the state of Hawai`i

The purpose of this fund is to provide scholarships for students enrolled at any community college campus of the University of Hawaii System (first preference) as well as students who have completed an associate's degree at any UH community college and are now applying to a University of Hawaii System baccalaureate degree program (second preference). Students may be pursuing a degree or certificate in any field of study. Funds shall be used for costs associated with attendance.

Criteria

1. Recipients must be enrolled at one of the University of Hawai'i Community Colleges (first preference) or completed an associate's degree at any UH community college and are now applying to a UH baccalaureate degree program (second preference)
2. Enrolled full-time or part-time
3. Have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or above
4. Recipients must be graduates of a Hawaii high school or have received their General Equivalency Diploma (GED) from a Hawaii issuing authority
5. Financial need, not necessarily as defined by federal guidelines
6. ​Preference shall be given to students of Hawaiian ancestry. This criterion will be included as long as it is not determined to be contrary to law or then existing University or Foundation policy.

The purpose of this fund is to provide scholarships to students enrolled in any area of study at Hawaii Community College.

Criteria

1. Must be a full-time undergraduate student in any area of study at Hawaii Community College
2. Some degree of financial need, not necessarily as defined by federal guidelines
3. Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
4. Must be a graduate of a Big Island (Hawaii Island) high school or Waianae High School on Oahu
5. Preference shall be given to a student who can demonstrate participation in activities related to the Filipino community, enrolling in programs or educational offerings related to the Filipino culture/language, or demonstrated community service throughout high school (i.e. Scouts, Junior Achievement, Civil Air Patrol, school/church activities, etc.)

The purpose of this fund is to provide scholarship support to students pursuing a degree or certificate in any area of study at the University of Hawaii at Hilo.  Funds shall be used for costs associated with attendance (e.g. tuition, books, fees, etc.). 

Criteria
 

1. Full-time, undergraduate students pursuing a degree or certificate at Hawai‘i Community College or full-time undergraduate students who are graduates of Hawai‘i Community College and pursuing a degree at the University of Hawai‘i at Hilo.
2. Cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or above.
3. Financial need shall be a criterion in making this award although not necessarily as defined by federal guidelines.
4. Preference shall be given to students who demonstrate participation in activities related to Filipino culture (e.g. member or volunteer with organizations serving the Filipino community or enrolling in programs or educational offerings related to Filipino culture).
5. Preference shall be given to students who have demonstrated community service throughout high school such as Scouts, Junior Achievement, Civil Air Patrol, school activities, church and other organizations.

This scholarship fund was established in memory of Barbara Felix Yap in recognition of her dedication and commitment in the co-founding of the Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) Program at Kapiolani Community College and for her excellence as an instructor in the program.

The purpose of this fund is to assist full-time students who have successfully completed their first semester in the PTA (Physical Therapist Assistant) program at Kapiolani Community College.

Criteria

1. Must have successfully completed the first year of the Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) program
2. Must be full-time
3. Have some degree of financial need
4. Major is Physical Therapist Assistant
5. Submit a statement of career goals in physical therapy, showing interest in improving the quality of physical therapy care in the community through participation in community based programs
6. Must have been a Hawaii resident for at least 2 years

1. Recipients must be full-time undergraduate or graduate students majoring in Business Administration, or graduate students enrolled in the Master of Arts in Teaching program at the University of Hawai'i at Hilo.
2. Recipients shall have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or above.

Honoring the memory of Mrs. Beatrice Beckley Martin, a daughter of James Campbell, a 19th century Irish immigrant who became one of Hawaii's largest landholders, this endowed scholarship is reserved for students from the Island of Hawaii pursuing a degree in the College of Agriculture, Forestry, and Natural Resource Management at UH Hilo.

This scholarship was established to assist students from the island of Hawaii in achieving well-rounded education with emphasis in the field of agriculture, so that they would be equipped to make positive contributions to the local community.

Criteria

1. Graduate of a Big Island (Island of Hawaii) high school.
2. Enrolled or planning to enroll full-time at UH-Hilo CAFNRM.
3. Show some degree of financial need.
4. Show academic potential.
5. Be of good moral character.

The purpose of this fund is to assist students in the Veterinary Technology Program at Windward Community College who seek higher education as an avenue to better the lives of themselves and their families.

Criteria

1. Must be a resident of the State of Hawaii
2. Recipients must be enrolled full-time or part-time (6 credits)
3. Must be an undergraduate pursuing a degree or certificate in Veterinary Technology Program at Windward Community College
4. Have a minimum GPA of 3.0
5. Have some degree of financial need, not necessarily determined by federal guidelines
6. Preference given to students who have graduated from a Hawaii high school

The purpose of this fund is to provide scholarships to assist students at Hawai`i Community College in memory of Betty K. Ikeda Enriques.

Criteria

1. Recipients must be full-time or part-time undergraduate students

3. Graduated from a Hawaii high school
4. Majoring in any area of study at Hawaii Community College
5. Should have a significant record of volunteer/community service, especially on the east side of the Big Island

The Big Island Association of Nurserymen (“BIAN”) was organized in 1968. Its goals are to promote nursery industry on the big Island and to bring together various groups of people including nurserymen, related industries, students and those interested in plants and flowers. The purpose of this fund is to provide assistance to students at the University of Hawaii at Hilo College of Agriculture, Forestry and Natural Resource Management.

Criteria

1. Recipients must be full-time, undergraduate or graduate students enrolled at the University of Hawaii at Hilo College of Agriculture, Forestry and Natural Resource Management
2. Preference given to students specializing in tropical horticulture or a similar area of specialization if this area no longer exists
3. Recipients shall have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or above
4. Recipients must be graduates of a high school within the State of Hawaii with preference given to Big Island high school graduates

The purpose of this fund is to assist students enrolled at Hawaii Community College. Funds shall be used for costs associated with attendance.

Criteria

1. Recipients must be full-time as an undergraduate pursuing a degree or certificate in the Automotive Mechanics Technology program at Hawai'i CC. Primary preference will be given to graduates of a Big Island high school with a secondary preference given to graduates of any state of Hawaii high school.

The purpose of this fund is to assist students enrolled in the Carpentry Program in the Construction Technology Dept. at Hawaii CC.

Criteria

1. Recipients must be enrolled Full-time (12 credits) in the Carpentry Program at Hawaii CC
2. Preference shall be given in this order:
   • Residents of the Hamakua Coast
   • Residents of the Big Island.
   • All residents in the State of Hawaii
3. Some financial need, not as determined by federal guidelines
4. Must be a current first-year Hawaii CC Carpentry Program student with intent to continue to the second-year Hawaii CC Carpentry Program

The purpose of this fund is to assist students at Kapiolani Community College who are single parents with minor children and who are in need of financial assistance for career training.

Criteria

1. Must be a full-time or part-time student
2. Have some degree of financial need, not necessarily as defined by federal guidelines
3. Have a GPA of 2.0 or better
4. Major in any area of study
5. Preference given to single female with a minor child(ren)

The purpose of this fund is to provide scholarship assistance to students pursuing a degree or certificate in any area of study at the University of Hawaii Maui College with a preference for students from disadvantaged backgrounds (e.g. displaced homemakers, widows, single-parents, orphans, etc.).

Criteria

1. Some degree of financial need, not necessarily determined by federal guidelines.
2. Preference given to students from disadvantaged backgrounds (e.g. displaced homemakers, widows, single-parents, orphans, etc.).

The purpose of this Fund is to provide scholarship support to students who are pursuing a certificate in dental assisting at the University of Hawai‘i Kapi‘olani Community College (Kapi‘olani CC). Funds shall be used for costs associated with attendance (e.g. tuition, books, fees, uniforms, equipment, supplies etc.).

Criteria

1. Full-time or part-time, undergraduate student pursuing a certificate in dental assisting at Kapi‘olani CC.

1. Student of Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander ancestry as self-identified through the application process. This criterion will be included as long as it is not contrary to State or federal law, or an order of a court of competent jurisdiction.
2. Student that is first in his/her family to attend college as self-identified through the application process.

The purpose of this fund is to provide scholarship assistance to new and continuing students pursuing a degree in Diesel Mechanics Program at Hawaii Community College. 

Criteria

1. Recipients must be enrolled full-time as undergraduate students pursuing a degree in Diesel Mechanics at Hawaii Community College
2. Academic merit as demonstrated by a minimum GPA of:
   • 2.5 for high school graduating seniors and new incoming students with no other college experience (as evidenced through an official high school transcript)
   • 2.0 for transfer students (with official transcript from prior college) and pre-major DISL students (hasn't completed any DISL alpha courses)
   • 2.5 cumulative for continuing students taking DISL alpha courses (completed 12+ cr in DISL major courses)
3. Student may be either new or continuing students in the program
4. Two letters of recommendation via UH Scholarship Manager common application

The purpose of this Fund is to provide scholarship assistance to new and continuing students pursuing a degree in an automotive program at the University of Hawai'i Maui College. Funds shall be used for costs associated with attendance (e.g. tuition, books, fees, uniforms, tools, etc.).

1. Full-time, undergraduate students pursuing a degree or certificate in an automotive program at UH Maui College.
2. Academic merit as demonstrated by the selection committee.

The purpose of these funds is to provide scholarships to students who qualify for the UH Hilo Chancellor's Scholarship Program and pursuing a degree in any area of study at the University of Hawaii at Hilo. UH Hilo Chancellor's Scholarships are renewable for up to four consecutive years so long as all criteria are met.

Criteria

1. Recipients must be enrolled full-time as undergraduates majoring in any area of study at the University of Hawaii at Hilo.
2. Must be within the top 10% of their graduating class from a high school in the State of Hawaii
3. Academic merit as demonstrated by a minimum GPA of 3.5
4. Demonstrate leadership and/or community service.
5. Adhere to UH Hilo Chancellor's Scholars Program requirements as follows:
   • Maintain a 3.25 cumulative GPA
   • Earn 24 credits per year
   • Participate in leadership activities and/or community service with other Chancellor's Scholars
   • Maintain continuous enrollment
   • Encouraged to participate in the National Student Exchange Program during their second or third year in college

Funds shall be used for costs associated with attendance (e.g. tuition, books, fees, etc.).

1. Full-time or part-time, undergraduate students pursuing an associate’s degree at Honolulu CC with a focus in public service (e.g. Human Services, Early Childhood Education, Administration of Justice, Fire and Environmental Emergency Response, and Liberal Arts).
2. Minimum GPA of 2.5.
3. Financial need although not defined by federal guidelines.
4. Student must submit a personal essay describing their future goals, ideas on becoming a leader, public service values and demonstrating they have been involved in community services and volunteerism.

   1. Native Hawaiian ancestry as self-identified. This criterion will be included as long as it is not determined to be contrary to law or then existing University or Foundation policy.
   2. Students who intend to pursue post associate degrees as self-identified.

2. Minimum GPA of 2.0

The purpose of this fund is to provide scholarship assistance to Native Hawaiian students who are pursuing studies in early childhood education at any community college campus in the University of Hawai'i System.

1. Recipients must be enrolled at least part-time
2. Attending any of the community college in University of Hawai'i System
3. Pursuing studies in early childhood education
4. Academic achievement as demonstrated by a minimum GPA of 3.0

The purpose of this fund is to provide scholarships for students who are pursuing a degree or certificate in any area of agriculture at the University of Hawaii at Hilo.

Criteria

1. Recipients must be enrolled full-time in an undergraduate program in an agriculture program at the UH Hilo College of Agriculture, Forestry & Natural Resource Management
2. Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above
3. Some degree of financial need, not necessarily as defined by federal guidelines.
4. Preference will be given to students who demonstrate interest in becoming agriculture leaders in the State of Hawaii as self-identified.

Preference given to children of Merrill Lynch Honolulu Office who are considered support staff. Exclude children of employees in management positions, who are financial consultants, investment advisors, brokers or employees who perform similar duties. Children of parents residing in Makakilo and other communities of the Waianae Coast, including but not limited to Wai'anae, Lualualei and Nanakuli.

Criteria

1. Recipient must be an undergraduate student at any University of Hawai'i campus
2. Must be full time enrolled in any field of study

2. Students who experienced a gap in their education.

4. Anticipate workforce participation for a significant period of time subsequent to graduation.
5. In the event the number of applicants is too small to expend all scholarship funds, criteria can be expanded to include any undocumented students and/or Pell grant recipients pursuing their first baccalaureate degree.

The secondary purpose, when there are no applicants in these fields, is to support students in the Wai‘ale‘ale Project. 1. Recipients must be enrolled full-time as undergraduate students majoring in Astronomy in the Department of Physics and Astronomy, at the University of Hawaii at Hilo College of Arts & Sciences, Natural Sciences Division.
2. Recipients shall have senior class standing.
3. Recipients shall have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.25
4. Have expressed a desire to pursue a career in the field of astronomy following graduation from the University
5. Preference given to graduates of high schools in the state of Hawaii.

His son Richard and Grandson Clifford (both graduates of the University of Hawaii at Manoa) modernized and expanded the business, moving it to its present site. After their deaths in 1998, Clifford's brother Larry served as President until his retirement in 2007. Clifford's widow Beverly (UH Manoa, 1965) continues to work at the business, and their son Mitchell (UH Hilo, 1992), the fourth generation in the family succession, serves as Vice President and operations Manager.

Dr. Doris Ching, Vice President for Student Affairs at the University of Hawai'i, retired after more than 36 years of nurturing and advocating for thousands of students on all campuses of the University of Hawai'i System. During her distinguished tenure at the university, Dr. Ching upgraded and expanded services for students, promoted rights of women and underrepresented groups, and supported hundreds of student leaders who hold influential positions in the community. As the first woman vice president of UH, Dr. Ching has been a role model to many individuals.

After serving as a classroom teacher with the state Department of Education, Dr. Ching joined the university in 1969 as coordinator of student teaching. In 1976, she became director of the Teacher Corps and in 1981 was appointed Associate Dean of the College of Education. After serving as Assistant to the President in 1986-87, she was appointed to the position of Vice President for Student Affairs. Dr. Ching received her undergraduate and master’s degrees in education from the University of Hawai'i and her doctorate degree from Arizona State University.

The purpose of this fund is to assist students with financial need with the opportunity to receive an education in any area of study at any University of Hawai'i campus.

The purpose of this fund is to provide scholarship assistance to deserving students at the University of Hawaii at Hilo who have declared a major in biology. The son of Chinese immigrant parents, John G. Chan was born in Chinatown in Oakland, California in 1938. His father ran a grocery store and a barber shop, but died when John was only 7 years old. John was forced to begin working early, selling newspapers and fish to help support his family.

Johns' childhood was characterized by an early interest in biology, starting with his experience growing seedlings in kindergarten. After completing his PhD at the University of Washington, John accepted a teaching position at the University of Hawaii at Hilo and spent the rest of his life on the Big Island with his wife Mary and their two children, Jimmy and Lisa. He won the coveted Regents Excellence Award for Teaching early in his career, and inspired several generations of students through his work as a microbiologist, his popular courses, and his research on diverse topics including shrimp, geckos, and leptospirosis.

Following his retirement, John devoted his time to several community organizations, including the Chinese Civic Association of Hawaii and the Kiwanis Club of East Hawaii. He died in 2010 at the age of 71, deeply mourned by the UH Hilo campus and surrounding community.

Submissions will be reviewed by the Hawai'i CC - Palamanui Culinary faculty.

2. Recipients shall have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or above.

Since 1999 Carolyn and Shaler "Sandy" Stidham have spent part of each year in Po'ipu on the island of Kaua'i.  While on Kaua'i, the Stidhams have become very aware and interested in Ni'ihau families and particularly their education at Kaua'i Community College.  Carolyn and Sandy are also supporters of Malama Maha?ulepu and the Lawa'i International Center and enjoy attending concerts of Hawaiian music.

As a graduate student at UH Manoa in 1967, Carolyn fell in love with the islands of Hawai'i, especially Kaua'i.  The Stidhams returned to Kaua?i several times for short visits with their children.  They were especially drawn to the children of Ni'ihau after they met students at a school founded by Bernice Elama Kanahele, which is dedicated to providing bilingual instruction in English and the Ni?ihau dialect.  (It is now a charter school called Kula Aupani Ni'ihau a Kahelelani Aloha or KANAKA).  Carolyn and Sandy volunteered to teach at the school and became friends with Elama.  She welcomed them into her school and her family.

Elwin Goo was born in Honolulu, graduated from Iolani School, and earned both a BA in Psychology and a PharmD from the University of Southern California. In 2008, he retired after a 30-year career with the U.S. department of Defense, Federal Civil Service. He served as Chief, Pharmacy Service, U.S. Army Health Clinic, Schofield Barracks and Chief, Inpatient Pharmacy, Tripler Army Medical Center. His wife, Valerie Goo, is a graduate of Punahou School. She attended the University of Hawaii at Manoa for two years before transferring to the University of Southern California, where she earned a BA in Spanish and a teaching credential. She taught math and Spanish in Los Angeles for four years and then pursued a 26-year career as a U.S. Customs Inspector in Honolulu until her retirement in 2006. The purpose of this Fund is to provide scholarships to students at the University of Hawaii at Hilo College of Pharmacy.

Estelle Louise Kelley was raised in the Los Angeles area and went to college in the early 1920s to a recently established branch of the University of California, now called UCLA. Roy and Estelle came to Hawaii in 1929. Estelle worked as a legal secretary with Judge James Coke to provide household funds while Roy pursued his architectural career. Later, she and Roy began to rent out apartments in Waikiki, she interviewed prospective tenants, kept the books, and cooked and served lunches to the workmen building new apartments that Roy had designed. Roy and Estelle have three children. After World War II, Estelle took on more and more responsibilities in running the fledgling hotel company that would eventually become Outrigger Enterprises Group.

The Estelle Louise Kelley Scholarship Program is an annual scholarship program established to support students in hotel operations training and education at Kapiolani Community College.

The purpose of this fund is to assist full-time or part-time students in either the Hotel Operations Program or the Pre-Business Transfer Program at Kapiolani Community College.

The purpose of this fund is to support students pursuing studies in the Nursing program at Kapi'olani Community College. It is the intent of the donor that the fund support students who are not academically in the top tier of the class so as to help average scoring students, not only financially, but also to improve their morale and to encourage them in their studies.

The Kane Fernandez Scholarship Foundation (currently called the Fernandez Earle Scholarship Foundation) was initially created in 2001 by friends who had grown to know and love Kane through the Langara Fishing Lodge in Canada. The Foundation honors the memory and spirit of Kane Fernandez, an avid fisherman, an astute businessman, generous philanthropist and beloved member of his Hawaiian and Haida Gwaii communities.

Kane Fernandez was one of Langara's most welcome guests, visiting two or three times each year. Kane encouraged and supported university education in his home state and, as a native Hawaiian, felt a strong connection to the island culture of Haida Gwaii. The Foundation awards scholarships to qualified Queen Charlotte Island graduates to attend Hawai'i universities with the long-term goal of changing coastal communities through education. That circle of honor is now being widened to afford British Columbia students the opportunity to visit Hawai'i to study its comparatively rich diverse marine life.

In 2003, Roger Earle, a board member of the Kane Fernandez Scholarship Foundation, strong supporter of education and life-long friend of Kane Fernandez, passed away. In honor of him, the Foundation was re-named to the Fernandez Earle Scholarship Foundation.

The purpose of this fund is to assist graduates of Hawai'i high schools attend any four-year campus of the University of Hawai'i System. This scholarship is intended to support incoming students through four years of education with hopes of retaining students through graduation. 

Criteria

1. Recipients must be full-time undergraduate students attending any four-year campus of the University of Hawai'i System
2. Must be Hawai'i residents
3. Preference given to students pursuing studies in marine science or biology
4. Must be graduates of a Hawai'i high school
5. Must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above to obtain the scholarship and must maintain a 3.0 GPA in order to renew it

4. Preference given to students majoring in History, Political Science or Economics (in that order).

The purpose of this fund is to assist full-time undergraduate students enrolled in the Tropical Forest Ecosystem and Agroforestry Management (Forest TEAM) Program in the Department of Math and Natural Sciences at Hawaii Community College.

4. Must have graduate from a Hawaii high school
5. Incoming Freshman or Sophomore who have completed the first years of Forest TEAM program

The purpose of this fund is to develop intensive courses in Japanese, Chinese and Korean as Second Language and related culture courses and a field study program with a service learning component with partner institution in Japan, China and Korea.  Each semester, ten UH community college students will be selected on a competitive basis to participate in this year-long program.

The purpose of this fund is to assist students in the University of Hawaii at Hilo College of Arts and Sciences who are majoring in Japanese Studies.

Criteria

1. Recipients must be enrolled full-time in an undergraduate program in Japanese Studies at the University of Hawaii at Hilo College of Arts and Sciences.
2. Recipients shall have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or above

The purpose of this fund is to provide assistance to single parents in any area of study at the University of Hawaii at Hilo.

The purpose of this fund is to assist students pursuing studies in Bio-Resources and Technology (Bio-Resource Development & Management) with interest in plant biotechnology at Windward Community College.

2. Academic merit as demonstrated by a minimum GPA of 2.5.

4. Preference to students who have intent to continue studies at an accredited four-year college or university.

The purpose of this fund is to provide scholarships to students majoring in Geography at the University of Hawaii at Hilo. The fund was established to honor the founders of the Department of Geography at UH Hilo: Drs. Sonia and Jim Juvik, Dr. Jim Kelly, and Dr. Jack Healy.

1. Recipients must be full-time undergraduate students majoring in Geography at the University of Hawaii at Hilo.
2. Recipients shall have sophomore class standing or above.

George H. Sasaki was the fourth of five children born to immigrant parents from Japan who worked on a sugar plantation in Mountain View on the Big Island of Hawai'i. George's schooling ended at the 4th grade.

In 1927, George moved to O'ahu at the age of 16. The turning point in his life occurred in 1936, when he served as a juror on a murder trial while employed at O'ahu Railroad and Land, as an oiler. At the end of the day, during on-going jury deliberations, an FBI agent took George home and told him not to talk to anyone about the murder case and he should call them to report anyone asking him about the case.

Later that afternoon, an influential, politically-connected man contacted George and asked George to come to his office. George went to his office, where this man told George to vote "guilty". Needless to say, George was intimidated. However, George was able to intelligently say with civility: "Did you just ask me about the murder case? May I use your phone?" The man replied, "why the hell do you want to use my phone?" George explained that the FBI instructed him to call them if anyone asked him about the murder case. George was able to return home safely that evening.

George realized that if he could stand up to such a powerful man, he could do anything. He quit his job as an oiler and decided to become a door-to-door appliance and jewelry salesperson. He went to Kansas City to attend watch-making school and through random acts of kindness from strangers, he was encouraged to succeed. He was able to establish and build a very successful jewelry business based on his honesty and integrity.

George met his wife, Kay, in 1936. She was born in Honolulu, Hawai'i, the first born child of four. Her formal education ended in her junior year at McKinley High School. She was nine years younger than George. Kay's father was the owner of C&W Bakery near Keeaumoku Street on the island of O'ahu. George lived close to the bakery, on Kaheka Street, and would frequent the bakery in an effort to get to know Kay. George's mom would always ask him why he was constantly buying more bread.

Kay was a supportive wife, a good cook and had a good work ethic. They ran the jewelry business together. George traveled to New York annually to attend the jewelry convention, where he learned the latest trends and purchased merchandise with unique designs.

George and Kay had two children. They provided their son and daughter many wonderful experiences and opportunities.

The generosity of George H. and Kay K. Sasaki has made this scholarship fund available to University of Hawai'i Community College students. May this scholarship provide the recipient the opportunity and encouragement to succeed.

This scholarship is established to provide scholarship support to students enrolled in any area of study at any University of Hawai'i Community College campus.

Glen Nomura is a graduate of Kaiser High School class of 1997. He studied at Lewis-Clark State College where he received a bachelor's degree in business administration. He returned to the islands to begin his professional career as a financial planner at AXA Advisors, LLC. His wife Cassie works as a speech language pathologist.

By establishing this endowment, the donors are providing perpetual funding to Hawai'i's public high school graduates who are interested in pursuing a career in business. The Nomuras feel that these scholarships are vital in providing opportunities for personal and professional growth and development that otherwise may not be available to deserving students. They are pleased to collaborate with Kapi'olani Community College, as the college teaches, preserves and instills core community-based values as well as prepares students for the field of business.

7. Must be an active and participating member of the Honolulu Community College's Phi Theta Kappa chapter (exception: Apprenticeship Program students)

The purpose of this fund is to assist students attending Windward Community College who seek higher education as an avenue to better the lives of themselves and their families.  Funds shall be used for costs of attendance e.g. (tuition, books, fees, etc.).

1. Preference to students who demonstrate an interest in emergency or specialty in veterinary medicine, as self-identified through the application process.
2. Must be a resident of the State of Hawai‘i.
3. Academic merit as demonstrated by a minimum GPA of 2.5.

Tokushichi Haga was the oldest son in a big family in Fukushima, Japan. When he was in his early teens, his parents sold some of their farmland and sent him to work in Hawaii, together with his brother. They landed in Honolulu and went to work on a sugar plantation on Oahu, attending night school to learn English. Mr. Haga's life was hard. The purpose of this Fund is to provide scholarships to students attending the University of Hawaii College of Pharmacy.

Criteria

1. Recipients must be full-time professional students attending the University of Hawaii at Hilo College of Pharmacy
2. Recipients shall have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or above

Hakuoh University in Oyama City, Tochigi Prefecture, 50 miles north of Tokyo, offers a 10-day summer homestay program to 7 UHCC students (one per campus if possible) who have demonstrated leadership in their community and/or school and want to learn first-hand about Japan and its culture. Students selected for the program will engage in intercultural activities with Hakuoh students, study Japanese culture, visit historical sites, and present a capstone project that reflects the participant's experience in serving his/her community and/or school. Participants are required to complete daily oral and written guided reflections and submit a culminating paper within one week upon return from Japan. Also, participants are expected to serve as a campus host and participate in activities with Hakuoh University students when they come to Hawai'i for their study tours.

Criteria

1. Must be a University of Hawaii Community College student (based on home campus)
2. Attended and completed one semester or more of credit courses at a UHCC campus
3. Enrolled full-time (at least 12 credits)
4. Hawaii resident and U.S. citizen (according to UH records)

1. Full-time, undergraduate students enrolled in the STEM program with the intent to pursue a BS degree in engineering, as identified through the application process.
2. State of Hawai‘i resident and graduate of a Hawai‘i high school
3. Preference
   1. Graduates of a Hawai‘i Island high schools.

The purpose of this fund is to assist students enrolled at Hawai'i Community College. Funds shall be used for costs associated with attendance.

Criteria

1. Recipients must be full-time or part-time undergraduate students
2. Students must be pursuing studies in Security Guard Training, Administration of Justice, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Fire Sciences programs
3. Some financial need not defined by federal guidelines

2. Financial need shall be a criterion in making this award although not necessarily as defined by federal guidelines.
3. Preference: Student involved in the UHWO HUB Pasifika Program, as identified through the application process.

1. Full-time or part-time, undergraduate students pursuing a degree or certificate in accounting or finance at any University of Hawai'i campus.
2. Resident of the State of Hawai'i.
3. Cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or above.
4. Financial need may be considered in making this award although not necessarily as defined by federal guidelines.

In making awards, a preference shall be given to legal dependents or other family members (e.g. sibling, grandchild, niece, nephew) of active members of the HSCPA, as identified through the application process. 1. Recipients must be enrolled full-time (12 credits) or part-time (6 credits) as undergraduates who have been accepted into the Associate of Science degree in Veterinary Technology program at Windward Community College.
2. Must be a resident of the State of Hawai' i.
3. Preference given to students who have graduated from a Hawai'i high school.
4. Academic merit as demonstrated by a minimum GPA of 2.0.
5. Some degree of financial need, not necessarily determined by federal guidelines.

1. Full-time or part-time, undergraduate students pursuing a degree or certificate in Applied Science with a concentration in Hawaiian and Indigenous Health and Healing at UHWO.
2. Academic merit as demonstrated by a minimum GPA of 3.0.
3. Preference to students who show commitment to addressing Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander or Indigenous
   health disparities in their professional career, as identified through the application process.

The purpose of this fund is to assist students at Windward Community College.

Criteria

1. State of Hawaii resident (as determined by admissions policies).
2. Enrolled at least half-time (6 credits) at Windward Community College as a classified student.

4. Preference given to students pursuing a degree in Hawaiian Studies.

The purpose of this Fund is to provide scholarship assistance to single parents pursuing a degree in any area of study at the University of Hawai‘i Maui College (“UH Maui College”). Funds shall be used for costs associated with attendance (e.g. tuition, books, fees, etc.).

Criteria

1. Full-time (12+ credits) or part-time (3+ credits), undergraduate students pursuing a degree in any area of study at UH Maui College.
2. Resident of Maui.
3. Single parents, as identified through the application process.

   2. If there are no eligible widowed applicants, preference shall be given in the following order:
      1. Single mother from Hana, Maui
      2. Single parent from Maui

Hazel Theodore was born and raised in Honolulu and graduated from Farrington High School. After receiving a bachelor’s degree from the University of Hawai'i at Manoa with a major in economics and a minor in business, she continued her education at Columbia University’s Teachers College. Returning to Hawai'i, Hazel was employed at Kapi‘olani Community College as a professor of business education, from which she has now retired. Hazel’s late husband, Dr. Chris Theodore, was an emeritus professor of economics & management at Boston University. He was also an alumnus there where he achieved his master’s and PhD.

Along her career path, Hazel has worked as a clerk for the Department of Defense in Japan; spent three years with AID in Laos, was sent to Okinawa and Korea for three years each with the University of Hawai'i Employment Training Office, spent a year as an exchange professor at San Jose City College, and spent time in Samoa and Majuro through assignments with the University of Hawai'i Contract Office. With retirement, Hazel has brought her unique experiences and great passion to light through volunteer work. As On-Site Coordinator of Elderhostel and a volunteer for Travelearn, Hazel has been able to further these two programs that she initially helped establish. Committed to Kapi‘olani Community College, Hazel also volunteers at the college’s non-credit Culinary Arts Program and is known as one of the “quintessential volunteers” for the department. Volunteering keeps Hazel “in touch with people” and allows her to “continue to learn, which is tremendously satisfying.” While not busy volunteering, Hazel can be found traveling to see opera performances and playing bridge with her friends.

The purpose of this Fund is to provide scholarship support for students who are pursuing a Certificate of Achievement in Practical Nursing at the University of Hawai‘i Kapi‘olani Community College (Kapi‘olani CC). Funds shall be used for costs associated with attendance (e.g. tuition, books, fees, uniforms, equipment, supplies etc.).

Criteria

1. Full-time or part-time, undergraduate student pursuing a Certificate of Achievement in Practical Nursing at Kapi‘olani CC.
2. Financial need shall be a criterion in making this award although not necessarily as defined by federal guidelines.

The purpose of this fund is to assist full-time or part-time students enrolled in a health career program at Kapiolani Community College.

Criteria

1. Must be full-time or part-time
2. Must have some degree in financial need, not necessarily defined by federal guidelines
3. Major in the Allied Health, Nursing or Emergency Medical Services programs
4. Must demonstrate interest in a health career

Helen Hites, was a single mother of Phoenix (age 5) and daughter of Richard and Jackie Hites.  She passed away Sunday, March 3, 2013 at the age of 32.  She was born in San Antonio, Texas on April 19, 1980, but lived most of her life in Hawaiʻi.  Helen attended schools in South Korea, the Philippines, briefly in France, and was a graduate of Mililani High School.

After prevailing over some challenging times in her life, she enrolled at Kapiʻolani Community College, where she engaged in community service and college activities as an active member of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society while still devoting countless hours to the raising of her son.

Helen was recognized for her academic excellence and personal integrity.  She graduated from Kapiʻolani Community College as valedictorian with an Associate of Arts degree in 2012.  Her tireless efforts as a leader to students and contributor to the community along with her remarkable outreach and kindness to friends and new acquaintances will be a continuing example to those whom she touched.

In recognition of Helen Hites' life and her achievements, her family has established the Helen Hites Endowed Scholarship for Student Success at Kapiʻolani Community College.  This scholarship was created to support students who exemplify the qualities of Helen Hites; outstanding character, motivation, and determination to complete a college degree.

The purpose of this fund is to assist students who are Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society members working towards a degree at Kapiʻolani Community College, who are single parents and possess motivation to succeed.

Criteria

1. Full-time or part-time, undergraduate students pursuing a degree at Kapiʻolani Community College
2. Members of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, as self-identified, or if Phi Theta Kappa is no longer in existence, another similar group, club or organization recognizing meritorious students
3. Minimum GPA of 3.0 or better

The purpose of this fund is to assist full-time or part-time students studying in the field of Business, Culinary, Health Sciences, Hospitality, or Nursing at Kapiolani Community College.

3. Have a GPA of 2.5 or better
4. Major in any area of study with preference given to applicants from the following fields:

This fund is established to support students pursuing a degree or certificate in career and technical education programs at any community college campus within the University of Hawai'i System.  

Criteria

1. Recipients must be full-time or part-time, undergraduate students pursuing a degree or certificate in career and technical education programs at any community college campus within the University of Hawai'i System.
2. Recipients must be Hawai'i residents and graduates of a Hawai'i high school or students who have passed the Hawai'i General Education Development (GED) Test.
3. Recipients shall have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or above.
4. Financial need shall be a criterion in making this award although not necessarily as defined by federal guidelines.
5. Preference shall be given to students of Hawaiian ancestry as self-identified.  This criterion will be included as long as it is not determined to be contrary to law or then existing University or Foundation policy.
6. Preference shall also be given to recent high school graduates.
7. Past recipients who re-apply, meet all scholarship criteria, and are making academic progress shall be given priority consideration.

The Hilo High School Class of 1940 launched a scholarship endowment in 1990 during their 50th class reunion. More than 120 classmates raised more than $18,000 to establish a fund that would provide Hilo High School graduates with scholarships in perpetuity. Class Officers included: Ben Inouye, John Yuen, Shizuko Akamine and Helen Young.

The purpose of this fund is to provide scholarships to entering first-year freshmen students in any area of study at the University of Hawaii at Hilo and at Hawaii Community College.

Hiromu Yamanaka received his BA from UH Manoa in 1943. After a 20-year career as a teacher in vocational agriculture he started his own realty company, Hiromu Yamanaka Realty, Inc. He was an integral player in the Hilo community and for many years was instrumental in promoting the cause and development of the University of Hawaii at Hilo, serving as an officer of the Friends of the University of Hawaii, Hilo Campus, and co-chairing the UH Hilo fund in 1971. He was instrumental in organizing the Hawaii Island Board of Realtors and served as its first president in 1966. He was then appointed by the Governor to serve as Real Estate Commissioner from 1965-1973.

Helen Yamanaka was a graduate of Kapi'olani Business College and worked for 26 years in a civilian capacity as an administrative assistant at Kilauea Military Camp. She also served as secretary/treasurer of Hiromu Yamanaka Realty, Inc.

1. Recipients must be full-time or part-time, intercollegiate undergraduate student atheletes attending the University of Hawaii at Hilo in any area of study.
2. Recipients shall have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or above.
3. Financial need shall be a criterion in making this award although not necessarily as defined by federal guidelines.
4. Preference shall be given to graduates of Hawaii island high schools.

The purpose of this fund is to provide scholarships to deserving, qualified students at the University of Hawaii at Hilo who demonstrate an interest in public/oral history and/or cultural resource/heritage management.

The son of Japanese immigrants from Hiroshima, Hiroo Sato lived his entire life (1919-2006) in Pahoa, Hawaii. His parents could not afford to send him to high school in Hilo, so after graduating from ninth grade at Pahoa School, he went to work for Olaa Sugar Company, cutting cane for 90 cents a day. He ultimately retired as a harvesting supervisor for Puna Sugar Company in 1981.

Mr. Sato became an authority on Pahoa's history, working hard to preserve the legacy of the Japanese immigrants who began settling there in the late 19th century. He worked to restore the graves of immigrants interred in the Pahoa Japanese Cemetery and wrote a historical account of the Japanese community, Pahoa Yesterday (with assistance from UH Hilo students working in the graphics department at the Mookini Library). In 2005, Mr. Sato was presented with the Order of the Rising Sun, Silver Rays, by the Japanese government in recognition of his many contributions to preserving the legacy of the Japanese immigrant community in Hawaii.

1. Recipients must be full-time or part-time, upper division undergraduate (junior or senior) students or graduate students at the University of Hawaii at Hilo who self-identify as having interest or experience in public/ oral history and/ or cultural resource/ heritage management
2. Recipients shall have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or above
3. Financial need shall be a criterion in making this award although not necessarily as defined by Federal guidelines
4. First preference shall be given to graduates of a Hawai'i island high school, then to graduates of a Hawai'i State high school. Scholarship may be awarded to others if no other candidate meets the preferred criteria

The purpose of this fund is to assist students in Culinary Arts at Kapi'olani Community College. Funds shall be used for costs associated with attendance (e.g. tuition, books, fees, etc.). 

Criteria

1. Must be enrolled full-time or part-time as undergraduate students in Culinary Arts at Kapi'olani Community College.
2. Must be enrolled in Advanced Culinary Arts 300 level culinary courses.
3. Must be a resident of the State of Hawaii.
4. Some degree of financial need, not necessarily detennined by federal guidelines. 
5. Preference shall be given to students who express intent to continue into the BAS in Culinary Management program offered at the University of Hawai'i West Oahu.

1. Must be enrolled full-time as undergraduate students pursuing a degree or certificate in the Hospitality and Tourism Program at Kapi'olani Community College.

This scholarship was established to promote quality educational programs through the recruitment of promising Hawaii high school graduates.

3. Must be accepted in a degree-seeking program at Honolulu CC
4. Must be a bona fide Hawaii resident (excludes students who pay non-resident and non-resident exemption tuition)

The purpose of the ASE Awards of Excellence program is to provide financial aid to students who are striving to become professional automotive technicians to help them to continue their education and express ASE's appreciation to the department heads and instructors responsible for nurturing those students.

2. Must be enrolled full-time
3. Must have a minimum of a C (2.0) average in all major course work

Scholarships to assist students in Digital Media Arts program

To develop intensive courses in Japanese, Chinese and Korean as Second Languages and related cultural courses, and a field study program with a service learning component with partner institutions in Japan, China and Korea. Each semester, ten UH community college students will be selected on a competitive basis to participate in this year-long program. After successful completion of a program of study in Asia, students agree to return to their community college in Hawaii and complete the following Service-Learning assignments: conduct public presentation on their experiences in China, Japan or Korea; encourage and mentor other community college students who may wish to pursue international careers and participate in the Freeman program; share their international experiences with students at local high schools

Patrick and Janet Bullard both attended the University of Hawai'i.  Patrick attended Windward Community College and UH Manoa, grew up on the Windward side, and has a great affinity for Windward Community College.  Janet attended UH Manoa and is a longtime volunteer in various roles supporting the university since she graduated.  They are both proud alumni and believe strongly in providing opportunities for students to access higher education in appreciation for the education they both received from the University of Hawai'i.  Ipo Bullard was the beloved Jack Russell Terrier and 'child' of Patrick and Janet Bullard.  She had a beautiful spirit, exuded so much positive energy, and very sensitive to the needs of others.  She was strong and independent yet so loving.  She transformed many bad days into amazing ones with a simple hug and lick on the knee or face.  She never thought of herself as a small dog, rather thought she was a Rottweiler or Bull Mastiff.  She feared nothing and even in her old age remained strong in spirit bringing so much joy to our family.  This scholarship honors Ipo and all who love animals.  The Bullards want to honor her memory by helping those who have chosen to care for animals in their careers.  Animals don't have a voice and only we can be the voice for them.

4. Funding shall be used to support recipients' travel to and from India, their day-to-day living expenses while in India, and their research objectives while in India.
5. Recipients must submit a written report of their experience and research objectives that were met while in India to the Foundation Scholarship Office within one month upon their return to the United States.

James "Jimmy" Arakaki grew up in a plantation camp in Ola'a, raised by Okinawan grandparents and graduated from Hilo High School. After serving in the U.S. Army (4th All Hawaii Company) from 1958-1961, he attended Hilo College for two years, then transferred to the University of Hawaii at Manoa and graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration (Economics) in 1965. Jimmy and his wife Grace manage Dodo Mortuary Life Plan Inc. in Hilo.

The purpose of this fund is to provide scholarship assistance to students at the University of Hawaii at Hilo College of Business and Economics.

Criteria

1. Recipients must be full-time undergraduate students enrolled at UH Hilo in the College of Business & Economics.
2. Recipients shall have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above.
3. Financial need shall be a criterion in making this award although not necessarily as defined by federal guidelines.
4. Preference shall be given to graduates of a public high school in the State of Hawaii, preferably on the Big Island; veterans honorably discharged from active U.S. military service; or the son/daughter of a veteran, honorably discharged from active U.S. military service

1. Full-time, undergraduate student who are pursuing a degree at the University of Hawaii at Hilo College of Agriculture, Forestry, and Natural Resource Management with a Pre-Veterinary Medicine or Livestock Production specialty in Animal Science, or Aquaculture

3. Cumulative grade point average of 2.8 or above
4. Preference given to students with sophomore, junior or senior standing

The purpose of this fund is to provide scholarship support to students pursuing a degree or certificate in any area of study at the University of Hawaii Maui College.

Criteria:

1. Enrolled full-time or part-time pursuing a degree or certificate in any area of study at UHMC
2. Academic merit as demonstrated by minimum GPA of 2.5 or better
3. Some degree of financial need, not necessarily determined by federal guidelines
4. Preference to residents of Maui County

The purpose of this fund is to provide scholarship support for students enrolled at the University of Hawai‘i Maui College (“UHMC”).  Funds shall be used for costs associated with attendance (e.g. tuition, books, fees, etc.).

Criteria

1. Academic merit as demonstrated by a minimum GPA of 2.5.
2. Some degree of financial need, not necessarily determined by federal guidelines.
3. Preference shall be given to students who have experienced time in a foster care system, as identified through the application process.
4. Preference to students in the Baking specialty area.

As a lasting tribute to the late James F. Embrey, devoted speech instructor at Kapiolani CC for over 20 years, friends and relatives have established a scholarship fund with the monies donated in Jim's memory to provide financial support for liberal arts students at the College, with a preference given to students preparing for a career in Speech and Communications.

The purpose of this fund is to assist students enrolled full-time as liberal arts majors at Kapiolani Community College. Preference given to students preparing for a career in Speech and Communications.

Criteria

1. Full-time
2. Preference shall be given to students preparing for a career in Speech and/or Communications
3. Have some degree of financial need
4. Have a GPA of 3.0 or better
5. Major is Liberal Arts
6. Demonstrate service to Kapiolani CC and/or the community

The purpose of this fund is to provide scholarship assistance to students enrolled at the College of Agriculture, Forestry and Natural Resource Management (CAFNRM) at the University of Hawai‘i Hilo. Funds shall be used for costs associated with attendance (e.g. tuition, books, fees, etc.).

1. Recipients must be enrolled full-time or part-time as undergraduate or graduate students pursuing a degree or certificate at CAFNRM at the University of Hawai‘i Hilo. 

The purpose of this fund is to provide scholarship assistance to students enrolled at the College of Business and Economics (CoBE) at the University of Hawai‘i Hilo. Funds shall be used for costs associated with attendance (e.g. tuition, books, fees, etc.).

Criteria

1. Recipients must be enrolled full-time or part-time as undergraduate or graduate students pursuing a degree or certificate at CoBE at the University of Hawai‘i Hilo.  

The purpose of this fund is to provide scholarship to students majoring in any area of study at the University of Hawaii at Hilo. James S. and Kameko Yagi were children of immigrant sugar workers from Okinawa who valued success through hard work. They each had only a grade school education which was more than matched by their passionate entrepreneurial spirit and their fierce determination to succeed.

Criteria

1. Recipients must be full-time, undergraduate students majoring in any area of study at the University of Hawaii at Hilo
2. Recipients shall have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or above
3. Financial need shall be a criterion in making this award although no necessarily as defined by federal guidelines
4. Preference shall be given to graduates of Hawaii island high schools

1. Recipients must be enrolled as either full-time or part-time students at UH Hilo with a major concentration in English and an intention to pursue a career that will make use of their writing and speaking skills.
2. Preference will be given to students who come from a disadvantaged background.
3. Written statement on student's background and how an English major or concentration will help to fulfill his/her career aspirations.

5. Must be a Hawaii resident
6. Preference given to members of the Single Parents and Displaced Homemakers Program

1. Full-time undergraduate students pursuing a baccalaureate degree in any area of study at the University of Hawai'i at Hilo
2. Cumulative GPA of 3.5 or above

The purpose of this Fund is to provide full two (2)-year scholarship support for students who are pursuing a degree in culinary arts at the University of Hawai'i Kapi'olani Community College (Kapi'olani CC). Preference shall be given to incoming first-year students . Funds shall be used tor costs associated with attendance (e.g. tuition, books, fees, uniforms, equipment, supplies, etc. but shall exclude costs to attend or participate in culinary exhibitions or competitions, local or national).

Criteria

1. Full-time or part-time, undergraduate student pursuing a two (2)-year degree in culinary arts at Kapi'olani CC.
2. Cumulative grade point average of 2.0 or above.
3. Financial need shall be a criterion in making this award although not necessarily as defined by federal guidelines.

1. Full-time or part-time, undergraduate students pursuing a degree or certificate in any business related field (e.g. Applied Business & Information Technology, Accounting, Hospitality & Tourism, Business Technology, Business Administration, etc.) at UH Maui College.

1. Recipients must be full-time undergraduate students enrolled in any area of study at the University of Hawaii at Hilo.
2. Financial need shall be a criterion in making this award although not necessarily as defined by federal guidelines.
3. Preference shall be given to graduates of a Hawaii high school.

The purpose of this Fund is to provide financial support to University of Hawai‘i at Hilo (UH Hilo) students serving as interns on the staff of Hawai‘i State or US Senators or Representatives through the Department of Political Science and Administration of Justice Legislative Internship Program. Funds may be used for expenses such as: transportation, housing, stipends, or expenses related to tuition to cover the credit-based internship course. 

Criteria

1. Full-time or part-time, undergraduate or graduate student pursuing a degree at UH Hilo and enrolled in the Government Internship course (POLS 481) or similar course.
2. Student serving as an intern on the staff of Hawai‘i State or US Senators or Representatives, as self-identified through the application process.

The purpose of this Fund is to provide scholarships for students attending the University of Hawai'i at Hilo ("UH Hilo") to study abroad internationally. Funds may be used for travel, meals, housing, costs of attendance (tuition, books, fees, etc.) while abroad.

Criteria

1. Recipients must be enrolled as full-time undergraduate students with a declared major at the University of Hawai`i at Hilo
2. Recipients must have a minimum 3.5 UHH GPA
3. Recipients must be accepted to a study abroad program of at least one semester, as pre-approved by the UH Hilo Director of Global Education at the Center for Global Education and Exchange
4. Recipients must be graduates of a high school in the state of Hawai`i. Preference shall be given to graduates from high schools on Hawai`i Island, Moloka`i, Lana`i or Ni`ihau.

John Garrett Peavy Memorial Scholarship is to assist students at UH Maui College with an interest in Hawaiian Studies.

Criteria

1. Must be full-time or part-time
2. Some financial need not defined by federal guidelines
3. Have a GPA of 3.0 or better
4. Must be an undergraduate student attending UH Maui College who has an interest in Hawaiian Studies or pursuing studies in Hawaiian Studies or similar
5. Hawaii resident, with preference given to Maui County residents

1. Scholarships for full-time students enrolled in their final year of study at the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo College of Pharmacy.
2. Outstanding merit as determined by the selection committee.
3. Financial need shall be a criterion in making this award although not necessarily as defined by federal guidelines.

John M. Ross came to Hawai'i as a young man and went to work for Hakalau Plantation on the Hamakua Coast of the Big Island of Hawai'i. He became one of the foremost agriculturists in the Hawai'i sugar industry and retired as manager in 1942 after 47 years of service.

The purpose of this fund is to provide financial support to students from the Island of Hawai?i ("Big Island") enrolled at any University of Hawai?i campus. Funds shall be used for costs associated with attendance (e.g. tuition, books, fees, etc.).  

Criteria

1. Full-time or part-time, undergraduate students enrolled at any University of Hawai?i campus.
2. Residents of the Big Island.
3. Graduates of a Big Island high school or received a high school diploma equivalent within the last three years prior to applying for the scholarship.
4. Demonstrates satisfactory academic merit with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0.
5. Demonstrates financial need, as determined by the University of Hawai?i.
6. Completed a Free Application for Federal Student Aid ("FAFSA") and received a correctly processed Student Aid Report (SAR).

The purpose of this fund is to provide scholarships to assist students enrolled at the University of Hawai'i pursuing any course of study leading to a baccalaureate degree.

Criteria

1. Recipients must be at least part-time undergraduate students
2. Enrolled in any course of study leading to a baccalaureate degree in the University of Hawai'i System
3. Academic merit as demonstrated by a minimum GPA of 3.0
4. Some degree of financial need, not necessarily as defined by federal guidelines

This scholarship is established to assist students in the Fine Arts program at Kapiolani Community College.

Criteria

1. Must have completed at least 2 semesters at Kapiolani CC
2. Full-time or part-time (minimum 9 credits)
3. Have some financial need
4. Must be a Hawaii high school graduate
5. Major is in the Fine Arts Program or New Media Arts Program 
6. Must have a minimum GPA of 2.0

The purpose of this Fund is to assist students in the Performing Arts and/or the Digital Media programs at Leeward Community College (“Leeward CC”). Funds shall be used for costs of attendance e.g. (tuition, books, fees, etc.).

Criteria

1. Full-time or part-time, undergraduate students pursuing a degree or certificate in the Performing Arts and/or Digital Media programs at Leeward CC.
2. Graduate of a Hawai'i high school.
3. Student must be in good academic standing as determined by the selection committee.
4. Some degree of financial need, not necessarily as defined by federal guidelines
5. Preference given to students who demonstrate strong evidence of talent, as determined by the selection committee.
